Position Summary: The Integrated Technology Design Engineer is responsible for designing and developing technology integration solutions that encompass AV, Security, and related IT infrastructure. This role involves designing systems that integrate audiovisual technology with modern IT networks, including cloud collaboration platforms like Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex, and Zoom. The engineer will also provide technical guidance on network best practices, security considerations, VLAN configurations, and streaming traffic optimization for enterprise environments.

This position supports sales efforts by participating in client meetings (both in-person and virtual), contributing to design sessions, and ensuring that solutions align with industry best practices and client requirements. While not responsible for sales, the engineer plays a key role in technical pre-sales discussions and project planning.

Key Responsibilities: 

Technology Solution Design
  • Design, document, and develop integrated audiovisual, security, and IT technology solutions tailored to client needs.
  • Specify cloud collaboration platforms and ensure seamless integration with enterprise networks.
  • Build detailed equipment bill of materials (BOM) quotes, labor level of effort (LOE) estimates, and solution scope of work (SOW) functional summaries / narratives.
  • Work closely with the furniture design and technology engineering teams to create detailed technical designs, schematics, visualizations, and plans that can be used in sales presentations and/or project implementation.
  • Provide technical leadership during client meetings, serving as the subject matter expert for integrated technology solutions.
  • Evaluate and incorporate emerging technologies to improve system performance, security, and scalability.

IT & Network Integration
  • Guide clients on network best practices for supporting AV over IP, streaming traffic, and remote monitoring.
  • Design and recommend secure VLAN configurations, multicast networking, and QoS settings to optimize AV and IT interoperability.
  • Ensure compliance with cybersecurity best practices, including secure device provisioning and network segmentation.
  • Support the integration of remote management tools, ensuring proactive system monitoring and maintenance.
  • Work closely with IT teams to establish connectivity requirements and troubleshoot network-related issues impacting AV performance.

Pre-Sales & Client Consultation
  • Support Account Executives during technical sales discussions, providing expertise on AV/IT integration and other integrated technology solutions.
  • Conduct needs assessments and participate in site surveys to gather relevant project details.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop tailored solutions that align with their workflow and business objectives.
  • Assist in developing technical proposals, design narratives, and equipment specifications for client approval.

Documentation & Coordination
  • Review architectural, electrical, and mechanical documentation to ensure proper coordination of technology infrastructure.
  • Specify conduit and electrical requirements for system implementation.
  • Prepare equipment specification submittals and mark-up MEP drawings as needed.
  • Maintain detailed design documentation to support project execution and future system maintenance.

Project Collaboration & Support
  • Collaborate with project engineering and operations team to ensure that designed solutions can be efficiently implemented within operational capabilities.
  • Partner with any of dancker’s sales and design teams (Architectural Products, Furniture, and Logistics) to provide integrated technology solutions that align with client needs and workplace functionality.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including sales and project engineering, project management, and service to ensure seamless project execution from concept to completion.

Technology Strategy & Innovation
  • Keep up to date with the latest technology trends, including developments in audiovisual systems, structured cabling, and electronic security solutions.
  • Provide strategic input to the VP of Sales on new technologies and solutions that could benefit DBE Systems’ service offerings.
  • Work with the VP of Sales to identify market trends and provide recommendations for adjusting technology offerings to meet client demand.

Sales Operations
  • Utilize CRM tools effectively for tracking design activities and progress. 
  • Utilize quoting and proposal development tools for generating estimates and client deliverables.

Compliance and Ethics
  • Adhere to company policies, industry regulations, and ethical standards. 
  • Promote a culture of integrity and responsibility within the company. 

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in AV system design with a strong understanding of IT network integration.
  • Expertise in audiovisual, structured cabling, and electronic security systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and technical skills, with the ability to lead the design and implementation of complex technology solutions.
  • Proficiency in designing solutions utilizing cloud collaboration platforms (Microsoft Teams, Webex, Zoom, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of network security protocols, VLANs, QoS, and multicast configurations for AV streaming traffic.
  • Familiarity with enterprise IT environments, including firewalls, remote management tools, and cloud-based AV deployments.
  • Ability to interpret and create architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of conveying technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with sales and operations teams.
  • Industry certifications such as CTS-D, CCNA, or equivalent a plus.
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have a solid understanding of ADA compliance and building codes related to AV and IT installations.
  • Ability to travel as required to meet with clients and attend industry events.
